Editor of News Alliance wins Freedom of Information battle with National Archives to get access to Home Office corruption Report


Home Secretary Jacqui Smith faces renewed pressure to release findings of the Hunt Report
into the MI5/MoD plot to overthrow the Harold Wilson government

Two months ago the editor of News Alliance visited the National Archives in Kew to study the findings of the Home Office investigation into misconduct and corruption in Public Office during 1974-1976.

What should have been a straightforward matter instead turned into an eight-week battle for access to already 'declassified' documents. And just days ago the National Archives tried to lead us away from document HO 421/414 by instead offering to let us view documents HO 241/83 and HO 241/141 in which we have expressed no interest. Naturally, we rejected the 'offer' and insisted on unlimited access to HO 421/414.

But now the National Archives, having brought its own name into disrepute by trying to block access to HO 241/414 with a series of blocking tactics dressed up as 'mistakes', has bowed to pressure. In due course News Alliance will visit the National Archives again to view the entire document and report back on the nature of any possible new diversionary tactics.

While this ranks as another significant achievement against the forces of HMG, it should be noted that the documents we requested should have been made available to us in the first place. But 'forces' in shadow government (The Executive) were intent on causing us maximum disruption as they reassessed HO 241/414 to ensure nothing damaging is released into the public domain. Such was their fevered desperation that they attempted a series of blocking tactics designed to slow down access to the damning document and again failed.

And now for the first time we can reveal that our intention from the very outset was to fool HMG into thinking we wanted document HO 241/414 whereas in reality our target has always been the Hunt Report into the plot by MI5 and the Ministry of Defence to overthrow the Harold Wilson government by using military force and Information Operations (I/Ops) to smear Government Ministers as KGB agents and friends of the IRA.

We have again outflanked HMG on this matter and made progress behind the scenes regarding access to details of the devastating Hunt Report that names the people involved in the anti-democratic plot to destroy British democracy. The shocking dossier is thought to be gathering dust somewhere in a Whitehall safe.

To this end and with "growing confidence" we will now bring pressure to bear on the Home Secretary to order the release of the Hunt Report or to explain why this hugely important historical document cannot be released into the public domain.

If the Home Secretary has nothing to hide and wants to promote 'Freedom of Information', she will order the release of the document which details the plot to destroy Old Labour. If the Home Secretary decides against releasing the Hunt Report this will signal that New Labour has nothing in common with Old Labour and in effect condones the actions of The Executive to bring down a democratically elected government.

We realise only too well the potential for division within the Labour Party over this matter and it comes at a time when the party needs to solidify its internal cohesion!

And we note that the Home Office has already claimed the destruction or eradication of all files on whistleblower John Francis Smith....
