David Davis MP resigns over terror vote

David Davis MP resigns over 42 day terror detention vote to make a stand against the Police State!

Shadow Home Secretary David Davis has today resigned his seat in Parliament to make a stand against the surveillance society [Big Brother] and the Police State over the 42 day terror detention vote disgrace. He said he could not stand by on the issue of the "relentless erosion" of freedom in the wake of the Government’s 42-day terror detention plan which will finally turn Britain into POLICE STATE!

Mr Davis spearheaded the Conservatives’ failed bid to defeat Government plans for 42-day detention without charge for terror suspects. But Gordon Brown scraped through with only a 9 vote majority and the plan looks set to be rejected by the House of Lords.

The Howden and Haltemprice MP is widely seen as one of the shadow cabinet’s most effective operators, and came runner up to David Cameron for the party leadership in 2005. Mr Davis has also shown that some MPs do actually speak for the masses and are prepared to make a stand against tyranny.

In a statement Mr Davis called the 42-day detention plan a
"monstrosity". And he has hit the nail directly on the head because once the New Labour regime gets 42 days it will want 60 days, then 90 days and then indefinite detention in a return to the catastrophic Internment Laws which bred the IRA membership in Ulster.

It came as little surprise that Ulster Unionst MPs voted to back 42 days despite the massive failure of Internment in the Province. Clearly, some people simply refuse to learn from history!

But Mr Davis now goes in the political wilderness briefly to seek a mandate from his constituents in Yorkshire and it is to be hoped that they will see sense and return Mr Davis to office where he can continue to do some good.

At News Alliance we rarely back any mainstream politician but Andrew MacKinlay, Norman Baker and David Davis are cut from a different cloth and we urge everyone who wants to preserve liberty to support them.
